1.5 - Pink Heart Bath Confetti

Requirements:
500g Rose pink glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
Pink soap colouring (Soap Barn)
Rose fragrance (Soap Barn)
Rice paper (Soap Barn)
Bulldog clips (Chocolate Den)
Heart punch (Soap Barn)
Organza bags (Soap Barn)
Glass beads (Soap Barn)

Method:
Gently melt each colour soap on the stove over a very low heat. When the pink soap is melted take a tablespoon of the melted soap out and add 3 drops of pink soap colouring to it. Dissolve the colouring in the tablespoon of melted soap and then return it to the pot. Stir the bright pink soap through the melted soap till the base soap is many shades darker than it was originally. Now add thirty drops of rose fragrance to the bright pink soap. Mix through well. Now you can divide the rice paper into quarter sheets. Fold the rice paper in half (width wise) and tear it, then fold those halves into half and tear them. This gives you a good size sheet to work with. Attach a bulldog clip to the edge of a sheet and prepare to dip. Dip each sheet into the pot of melted soap and hold it over the pot for 20 seconds (more or less) while the soap sets on the sheet. To get a nice thin coating of soap on your rice paper sheet the soap in the pots should be kept quite hot. (But not too hot so that it boils. Keep the stove on 1 and that should maintain the soap at the correct working temperature). As a sheet sets put it aside and dip the next one. When all the sheets (you need) have set you can start making your confetti. With a heart punch you can punch out your confetti into small heart shapes. Once your confetti is punched out you can package it in small organza bags. Decorate your bags with some attractive glass beads. Bath confetti is fun fun fun!!! Sprinkle the confetti into your bath for a beautifully scented bath. The coloured pieces float in your bath, scenting it, giving it a party feel and soften the water as the soap dissolves all around you. The rice paper dissolves away and you emerge from your bath relaxed as though you have just woken from a wonderful dream.

1.6 - Cherry Heart Bath Bombs

Requirements:
1 heart mould PV 166
1 Cup baking soda

1/2 Cup citric acid
1 Teaspoon sweet oil
1 Teaspoon coconut oil
3 Teaspoons witchhazel
Cherry fragrance oil
Pink powder colouring

Method:
In a large bowl mix together the baking soda and cornstarch and the citric acid. Put a handful of this mixture into a smaller bowl and add to it the sweet oil, coconut oil, pink colouring and cherry fragrance oil. Mash this mixture well into a paste and then return it to the big bowl. Crumb the coloured paste into the dry mixture till they are one even mixture. Add three teaspoons of witchhazel and mix through fast. Remember the more liquid you add to the mixture the more fizz you lose. The mixture must be just damp enough to hold together in a clump if you squeeze it in your fist. To make a heart fizz bomb pack the mixture very tight into a mould and then release it onto a tray to set. Do not leave the heart bombs on wood or cardboard to set because they will absorb the oil. 5.3 - Rooibos-Jasmine Soap Scrolls

Requirements:
500g Rooibos glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
3 heaped tablespoons dried jasmine flowers (Soap Barn)
Cellophane (Soap Barn)
Raffia (Soap Barn)

Method:
Start by melting your soap. Scatter your jasmine flowers over a 20x30 area of your kitchen counter. When the soap is melted leave it to stand for a couple of minutes so that all the bubbles rise to the top and a thin skin forms. Remove the thin soap skin that has caught all the bubbles and you now have a clear soap at a good pouring temperature. You have already prepared the surface on which you intend to work so now all you have to do is pour, very, very quickly the soap onto the surface over the flowers. Pour a strip of about 20cm for the width of the scroll and pour back and forth along that strip five or six times to get about a 30cm length. It is vital that you pour very quickly and that the lines between each poured strip run into each other immediately and are not visible. If you see gaps and lines in the soap you have poured you can almost be sure to have cracks and other problems when you begin rolling it. Now you wait. You stand and wait next to your soap as it begins to set. Do not move away! Timing here is everything. You have to wait for the soap to set enough so that it can be rolled but not wait too long for it to set solid and cold because then it will be really difficult to roll. There is about 60 seconds difference between too early and too late. So that's why you cannot take your eye off the soap after it has been poured. How do you know when the soap is ready to be rolled? By feeling it. If it feels like jelly that means it is only set on the outside but still liquid inside and obviously not yet ready to be rolled. Your soap must feel very warm and rubbery and then you know it is ready to roll. Once you have made a few scrolls you will know exactly what I am talking about. The edges of the soap set first so you can take a non-serrated knife and gently lift the edge of the soap closest to you. You don't need to use the knife again. Now turn that edge that you just lifted inwards and start rolling the soap up around that edge all the way to the end. If the soap sticks to the counter it is not yet set enough to roll, if the soap cracks then you have left it too long. Once you have rolled the entire scroll you can tie it up with some raffia to keep it in place and prevent it from unrolling at the end. Then you can wrap it in clear cellophane with more raffia on the outside.

6.6 - Citrus Soap Slices

Requirements:
500g Orange/Yellow glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
500g White Glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
PVC cylinder (Soap Barn)
Cellophane bags (Soap Barn)
Raffia (Soap Barn)
Dried orange and lemon slices (Soap Barn)

Method:
Cut your orange or yellow soap in half – lengthwise. Then cut each half (again lengthwise) into thirds. You should then end up with six long thin triangle shapes. Position these shapes in the centre of your empty large cylinder, leaving a little hole in the centre and a couple of millimetres between each orange segment. You can push them down onto the bottom of the cylinder so that they stick in place. Once all your orange segments are in place you can pour your white soap into that cylinder (between and around all the orange segments) filling the cylinder to the top with white soap. Leave this cylinder aside to set. When the soap in the cylinder feels solid but still warm you can cut the cylinder away from your moulded soap. Now slice the soap down the middle so that you have two large semi circles. Place the semi-circle of soap on your chopping board, flat side down, and slice nice thick slices (1cm - 2cm) of soap. Package the slices in cellophane bags and decorate with raffia and dried orange and lemon slices.

Cut your white soap up into dice size cubes, to fill a narrow cylinder to the top with little white blocks. While you are doing this, you can place your red soap in a small jug into the microwave on defrost to melt. Set it aside to cool a little when it is melted. Once the cylinder is filled with white cubes and the red soap is ready, you can pour the red soap over the white cubes filling the cylinder to the top. Put this cylinder of soap aside to set. When the soap feels solid but still a bit warm you can cut the cylinder away from the soap. Place the red soap in the dead centre of the larger cylinder and pour the green soap all the way around it, filling the large cylinder to the top with green soap. Leave that cylinder aside to set. Again, when the soap in the cylinders feels solid but still warm you can cut the cylinder away from your moulded soap. Now slice each of the large soaps down the middle so that you have two large semi circles. Place the semi-circle of soap on your chopping board, flat side down, and slice nice thick slices (1cm - 2cm) of soap. With the watermelon you can also cut chunks (cut the semi-circle in half so that you have quartered the soap and then cut those quarters into 4cm – 5cm chunks. Maybe you can do watermelon slices with the one semi-circle and slices with the other. Both look great. Package in cellophane bags and decorate with hemp string and wooden beads.

A lollipop mould (Soap Barn)
A Turkish delight mould (Soap Barn)
A jelly baby mould (Soap Barn)
A wine gum mould (Soap Barn)
A nougat mould (Soap Barn)
200g white glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
200g red glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
200g orange glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
200g yellow glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
200g green glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
200g purple glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
Cellophane for packaging (Soap Barn)
Cellophane bags for packaging (Soap Barn)
White powder colouring (Soap Barn)
Lollipop sticks (Soap Barn)
Soap stickers (Soap Barn)

Method:
Soap candies are really easy and loads of fun to make. You can start off by placing all your moulds on the counter where you can reach all of them easily. Now you can start melting your soaps. Melt each colour separately in a small glass or plastic jug in the microwave on defrost. The next step is pouring the soaps. Remember to leave the soap to cool a little once it is melted. When it forms a skin on top it is ready to pour. Another very important tip when making soap candies is to always pour your soap right to the top of each mould. When you under fill a mould the soap is very difficult to unmould once set. You can start by making your cherry nougat soaps. Take some red soap, some green soap and some brown soap and cut them into very small chunks for the cherries and nuts in the nougat. Scatter them randomly in your nougat mould (the mould with the six candy bar shapes). When you have finished doing this you can pour white soap over the pieces and fill the moulds to the top. Leave this mould aside to set. The red and clear soap must get poured into the Turkish delight mould (the one with the flowers and the squares. Use only the squares, as those are a great shape for Turkish delights. Leave those aside to set. The clear, red, yellow, orange, green and purple soaps must get poured into the jelly baby mould, the lollipop mould (the one with the small half rounds) and the wine gum mould (the one with the flat rounds with serrated edges). Put those aside to set. Remember, especially with these moulds to fill them right to the top! When your nougats are set (the soap will feel cold to the touch) you can unmould them. Now you can wrap them with the cellophane. Cut up appropriate size squares of cellophane and wrap up your nougats as you would a gift. When the Turkish delights have set unmould them. Take your thick, soft haired brush and dip it into the white powder colouring. Now dust the Turkish delights with white powder to look like icing sugar. Then place each Turkish delight into a single paper case. They can all get packaged into a PVC chocolate box. When the jelly babies have set unmould them and package them in a cellophane bag. When the lollipops have set unmould them. Place them on your counter, facing down (flat side on the counter). Now take a lollipop stick and push it through a half round all the way through till it reaches the counter. Now lift it up, place a matching second half on top of it and push the stick through the second half – although not right through. Now cut appropriate size squares of cellophane and wrap them around the lollipops. Secure the cellophane in position with a piece of sellotape at the base of the lollipop around the stick. When the wine gums have set unmould them. Now take your apple corer and cut circles out of the already moulded soaps. This will make them the right size and shape for wine gums. Put them all together and roll them in cellophane. Close the cellophane on either side of the roll by twisting it. Finally you need to place the soap stickers on all your soap candies. This is to let everyone know that although they look exactly like the real thing, they are in fact soaps and not edible.

8.3 - Decoupage on Soap

Requirements:
One double size square soap mould (Soap Barn)
Serviettes
Wrapping paper
500g white glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
100g clear glycerine soap (Soap Barn)
100g candle wax (Soap Barn)
Cellophane bags for packaging (Soap Barn)

Method:
Put the white soap in a pot on the stove over a very low heat and allow it to melt very gently. When your soap has melted you can pour it into the square mould. Now leave the soap. While you wait for you soaps to set you can start preparing your cut-outs. Cut the designs out of the wrapping paper and serviettes carefully and neatly. Think also about pictures or designs that will work well together either on the same soap or on a set of matching soaps. One fun thing to do is to cut out a large picture. Then cut it into four equal quarters. Those four quarters can then be used on a set of four, square soaps to make up the full picture. Once all your white soaps are out of their moulds and the pictures and designs are cut out and prepared, you are ready to start your decoupage on soap. Place the clear glycerine soap in a small plastic jug and melt it in the microwave on defrost. Take your thick, soft haired paintbrush and dip it into the melted clear soap. Brush it on the back of the picture and very quickly place the picture onto one of your white soaps. Continue like this till you have finished sticking all your pictures. Now, making sure that your soap is hot and liquid (you may need to reheat it for a few minutes in the microwave, because it does need to be quite hot for this final task) you paint the top of the soap (where the picture is) with long smooth brush strokes, moving quickly from one end of the soap to the other. Dip your brush into the soap before each brush stroke. If you work quickly and neatly your soaps will have a thin, transparent coating over the top to protect the design. Package neatly in clear cellophane bags.

Hemp string (Soap Barn)
Blue glass beads (Soap Barn)

Method:
Gently melt the white soap in a jug in the microwave on defrost. Pour the melted white soap into the oval mould. Make sure you fill the moulds right to the top because if you under fill them they are not as easy to unmould when they are set. Leave to set. Gently melt the blue soap and pour it into the marine moulds – the one with the seahorse, starfish and dolphin. Leave to set. Unmould both soaps. Pour a drop of melted soap on the back of a blue marine soap and gently drop it face up onto the white soap. Place it and leave it. If you attempt to adjust it the blue soap won't stick and you will have to peel off the soap at the back and start the sticking process over. Put your completed soaps in cellophane sachets and tie with hemp string and blue glass beads.
